The tunnel kiln for continuous brick mfg., with an initial drier to dry the charge and burn off any flammable and contaminating residue, takes exhaust gas in the higher temp. range from the drier into the kiln zone. This gas is moved against the direction of material travel at the heating zone and the drier within the shrouding mantle for the kiln and the drier. ADVANTAGE - The appts. permits the use of additives in the preparation of the bricks, and the transfer of the bricks from the press can be by remote control through monitors. There is no unloading and reloading of the charges between the drying and firing stages.
