The TDM communications exchange has at least one coder (4) providing a codeword from each data word having a greater number of bits than the latter. The coupling field (1) comprises a number of parallel partial coupling fields (6a...6d) each receiving a partial codeword. The partial codewords fed to a decoder (8) for providing the original data word. The coder uses a coding instruction providing a code word with two main code words, each providing partial code words with the same information. ADVANTAGE - Error correction without increased complexitiy.
