The controlled hydraulic pressure is generated by a pneumatic cylinder (10), with controlled pneumatic pressures on either side of the piston (12). The piston is linked to a hydraulic piston (22) which provides the hydraulic pressure for the brake unit (28) under test. The actual hydraulic pressure is measured, as is the brake reaction. A pressure sensor (40) in the brake line and a reaction monitor (42) on the brake unit are linked to the control unit (44). This operates the control valve (52) for the pneumatic pressure via a test program. ADVANTAGE - Rapid testing of brake units without having to assemmble into vehicle, also tests dynamic brake reaction.
