The coordinator/guide installation has separate monitoring and tracking sensors for target recognition. In the absence of target range data, the tracking sensor (FS) is initiated by setting the range (ee) to a fixed value equal or less than the trigger range (RA) of the sensor. The target angle (PHIe) is continuously revised after reference to and as a function of the changes in side elevation (PHIz) reported by the monitoring sensor (US) until the value falls within the sensor (FS) trigger range. Thus PHIe = arc cos C1/2, C1/2 = F.D plus or minus sq.rt. 1 + F2.D2 D.(1+F2). In this F = A/RA, D = sin2 PHIz and A is the distance monitoring and tracking sensors (US, FS).
