PURPOSE:To recover a solvent efficiently and to purify the solvent through distillation, by feeding a polyarylene sulfide reaction solution alurry into a stirring tank of a fractionating column having an upright stirring tank with a jacket as a still pot, and heating the slurry while stirring. CONSTITUTION:The polyarylene sulfide reaction solution slurry 1 is fed to the stirring tank 3 of the fractionating column 5 having the upright stirring tank 3 with the jacket 2, the slurry is heated in the stirring tank 3 while stirring, and distillation components are subjected to fractional distillation, to recover a solvent from the polyarylene sulfide reaction solution slurry and to purifying same through distillation.
