PURPOSE: To obtain the subject of long needle single crystal by oxidation, in an oxidative atmosphere at the upper reaction section, of a mixed gas of zinc vapor evaporated from a crucible, taking advantage of a combustion gas generated at the lower reaction section with such combustion gas. ;CONSTITUTION: A combustion gas generated from a combustion chamber 10 is discharged via an outlet 12 as shown by arrow solid line, and owing to its heat, molten zinc 26 fed through a zinc feed pipe into a crucible 20 is heated and zinc vapor is generated. The above-mentioned combustion gas is filled in the space 34 between the crucible 20 and combustion chamber 10, the outer periphery of a barrier 23 and the lower part of the reaction oven 30, constituting a combustion gas atmospheric zone 32. The above barrier 23 is provided so as to enclose the entire outer periphery of a zinc vapor discharging nozzle 21 at the top of the crucible 20. And a mixed gas of the zinc vapor and the combustion gas reaches an oxidative atmospheric zone 33 at the upper part of the reaction oven 30 where the mixed gas is oxidized, and the resulting zinc oxide whisker consisting of long needle tetrapod-shaped single crystal is fed into a collecting chamber 40.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
