ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA selectively ion-adsorptive, porous membrane compri-sing a membranous, porous rosin matrix of a hydrophobicpolyolefin or a hydrophobic copolymer of an olefin and ahalogenated olefin and a plurality of side chains chemical-ly bonded to both surfaces, which in turn are inclusive ofpore wall surfaces, of the membranous porous resin matrixis disclosed. The side chains collectively contain bothneutral hydroxyl groups and ion exchange groups. Theselectively ion-adsorptive, porous membrane is suitable foruse in selective purification or selective removal ofdesired ionic substances including not only ionic inorganicsubstances but also an ionic organic substances, such as aprotein and an amino acid, on a commercial scale. Further, the selectively ion-adsorptive, porous membrane has notonly excellent heat resistance, but also excellent mechan-ical strength. Therefore, the porous membrane of thepresent invention can advantageously be used for industrialapplications, such as pharmacy, fermentation and the like.
