A method of making a ceramic insulator for use in a spark plug structure, said method comprising the steps of: making a powder mix (5) from a ceramic powder, an organic binder and an auxiliary sintering agent; forcing the powder into a mould (6) and pressing the mould whereby the powder is compacted and shaped; and sintering the pressed ceramic.
