Process and device for fixing textile yarn (1) to be wound onto bobbins, using a vacuum bell (36) which can be evacuated and heated and which can accommodate one or a limited number of bobbins. Water and saturated steam are contained in a steam generator at a temperature equal to or slightly greater than the preselected temperature of the steam and at a pressure equal to the steam pressure at the vaporization temperature. The vacuum bell containing the bobbins is evacuated at a pressure substantially lower than the pressure of the steam. A control valve in a connecting line between the vacuum bell and the steam generator is then opened. As the vacuum bell is likewise preheated to essentially the vaporization temperature, the quantity of water required to fill the entire system with saturated steam at the vaporization temperature is very quickly converted to steam in the steam generator. The yarn is thereby steamed in cycles of approximately two minutes duration.
