The circuit is used for releasing a movable contact (22) attached to the ferromagnetic relay armature (34) from the stationary relay contacts (20) when the two contacts (20,22) remain united after the current through the relay coil is disconnected. It responds to detected adhesion of the contacts (20,22) to supply an AC voltage or pulsed DC voltage to the relay coil winding (46). Pref the AC voltage or pulsed DC voltage has a frequency which corresponds to the mechnical resonance frequency of the relay and it is supplied to the relay coil windng (46) for a defined duration.
