Thermoelectric element with metal enclosed in powdered graphite - has thermal cushion of electrically non-conductive black clay graphite around hot junction
Thermoelectric element with metal enclosed in powdered graphite - has thermal cushion of electrically non-conductive black clay graphite around hot junction
The thermoelement has a hot junction of e.g. Cu and Fe sheets or wires, which can be partially replaced by n-Si and ordinary electrically conductive graphite, enclosed between suitably sized and shaped discs of jet-black nonconductive so-called clay graphite as used in crucible mfr. The graphite may be constituted either as two discs or in powder form. ADVANTAGE - A thermoelectric current at a voltage of several millivolts is generated in the conductive loop between the hot and cold junctions when solar energy is conc. by a parabolic reflector. This voltage can be boosted with several such elements connected in series.
