Filter has a first housing portion with a central inlet nozzle and a second housing portion with a central outlet nozzle, the housing portions enclosing a hydrophilic flat filter and a spaced hydrophobic flat filter. The hydrophilic filter is sealed between the edges of the housing portions, while the hydrophobic filter is an annular filter which surrounds the inner opening of the inlet nozzle and which covers venting openings in the first housing portion. Each housing portion (1,7) has an integrated permeable filter support (4.9) for the hydrophilic filter (10). The hydrophobic filter (5) is sealed at both edges (6) to a recessed annular surface of the first housing portion (1) in which the gas venting openings (3) are located. Pref. the hydrophobic filter (5) consists of a PTFE membrane having a non-woven permeable material facing the venting openings. USE/ADVANTAGE - The filter is useful for filtering and degassing liquids e.g. sterile filtration of aq. solns. and cell culture media. It has a simple design and low dead space and provides improved degassing even when in the inclined position.
