A circular saw for sawing stone blocks has a blade in the form of a ring (1) with the cutting teeth (2) formed on the outside edge of the ring. The ring is supported on an endless belt which passes around end guide pulleys (11) and intermediate guide pulleys (12). The ring is driven by an endless toothed belt (5) which meshes with teeth (4) formed on the inside edge (3) of the ring. The toothed belt passes around end pulleys (7) one of which drives the belt, and is held in contact with the blade teeth by an intermediate pulley (8). ADVANTAGE - The blade can operate at a relatively reduced peripheral speed with a consequent reduction in the amount of dust generated by the sawing operation.
