To separate liq. from a flow of a mixt. of liq. and solid matter, the mixture with varible starting conditions and parameters in initially passed to an intermediate vessel. It is delivered to a separator by a dosing unit, according to the vol. present, in a set flow vol. The liquid separator has a capacity set to give a throughput speed according to the dosing unit delivery rate. Also claimed is an appts. to separate liquid fed in from an intermediate holding vessel by a dosing unit, for the mixed flow vol.. the dosing unit is profiled to grind the solid material in the flow. The drive for the separator is controlled according to the feed rate of the dosing unit. The level of suspension in the intermediate vessel is maintained at a generally constant level. USE/ADVANTAGE - The technique is for the removal of water from mixts. or suspensions contg. solid matter, especially cellulose or sludge spensions. The operation is automatically controlled to give the water extraction according to the amount of suspension fed through for more effective removal.
