A communication apparatus having a plurality of audio CODEC (5) and communication method thereof. When a coding mode for transmitting audio information is set, the audio CODEC (5) corresponding to the coding mode is selected and switched. When the coding mode of the audio information is instructed from the terminal on the transmission side, the audio CODEC on the reception-side terminal is switched according to the instruction. When these audio CODEC are switched, generation of audio noise can be suppressed by setting the mute on the audio information.
