A stair element for an overhanging stair has a central stringer which consists of several stair elements to which one tread each is fastened. The stair elements are designed as hollow bodies which each have a first wall part arranged below the tread and a second wall part arranged in front of the tread. To simplify the manufacture and assembly of the stair elements and in particular also to enable the stair to be self-built, the first wall part (4) has a horizontal inner wall (20) and an adjoining extension (24), the inside diameter of which is approximately the same as the outside diameter of the second wall part, likewise provided with a horizontal inner wall (30), and with which the first wall part (4) of a stair element (2') can be put onto the second wall part (6) of the adjacent stair element (2). The two inner walls (20, 30) can be screwed to one another by a bolt (34) to connect two adjacent stair elements. IMAGE
