The described methods are used to select a spectacle frame for a user. The methods comprise sorting frames in predetermined size ranges from temple to temple. The temple to temple of the user's head measurement is taken using a device which indicates at least one temple to temple size range which corresponds to the person to whom is intended the frame. Spectacle frames are adapted to the user selecting among the frames that are in the size ranges temple to temple corresponding to the user. The invention also uses a platform measuring frames to measure the perpendicular distance between the two temples of a spectacle glasses open and a method using this device. The platform comprises a support, two reference elements spaced from each other and movable relative to each other, as well as measuring means. The reference elements define measurement planes of the respective temples which are substantially perpendicular to a reference measurement plane defined by the support. The measuring means are used to measure the perpendicular distance between the temples of a spectacle glasses open.
