The optical cable (OC) has a least one light conductor (LW1) and at least one steel wire bearing acting as a reinforcement. The bearing comprises a number of steel wires (ST1-STn) positioned around the light conductor (LW1). The steel wires (ST1-STn) have an outer, thin, insulating, corrosion-resistant layer (KS). This layer is fixedly attached such that it closes each of the gaps between each wire (ST1-STn) and the corrosion-proof layer (KS). ADVANTAGE - Simple way of preventing water damage to optical fibres.
