The semiconductor light emitting elements (10) each provide a distinct colour contribution to the overall light output of the array. The lens (14) has a spatially structured pattern which combines the separate colour elements into the required colour of the beam. The lens elements also provide controlled light intensity. The light elements are either LED of laser diodes. The lens is either structured in a corresp. pattern to the element array or each element is covered with a curved lens with structured surface, while the overall lens is of plane glass. USE/ADVANTAGE - Vehicle light, e.g headlamp. Simple control of colour of beam, simple to change beam colour. Uses single colour elements in cost effective array.
