The effect of external temp. influences on the workpiece is taken into account by measuring the temp. of the workpiece before the dimensional measurement and accounting for the linear thermal expansion using the coefficient of thermal expansion of the workpiece. At the start of the dimensional measurement procedure the temp. of the workpiece is measured at a first time and the workpiece position w.r.t. a coordinate system determined. The dimensional measurements involve detecting a number of points. At the end of the measurement procedure the temp. and relative position are measured at a second time. Each sensing point is corrected w.r.t. its measurement time within the interval between the first and second times. USE/ADVANTAGE - For dimensional workpiece measurement. Unstable external temp. influences are compensated for.
