A special document identifier for adding to a digital copying machine or the like a function of preventing bills or the like to be counterfeited, and a system for controlling an image forming device having such a function. In the special document identifier, a ROM which stores the data for identifying bills or other special documents is detachably mounted on a control board. The data used for such identification can be learned from the test patterns inputted from an image forming device or can be inputted through an external communication line. A system for controlling the image forming device comprises an image forming device and a control device connected by a communication line. Either the image forming device or the control device is provided with the special document identifying function. From the image forming device, incidental information is transferred to the control apparatus together with the information of the identification results or the detected data.
