Method for determining a binder content of bituminous building materials

A method of determining the binder content of bituminous building material including a mixture of a mineralic constituent, a bituminous binder and moisture comprises the steps of: preparing a sample of the material, heating the sample to a temperature between 300 to 550. degree. C. to thermally remove the moisture and the binder without substantially decomposing the other constituents of the mixture, cooling the sample to ambient temperature after the thermal removal of the binder and before subsequently weighing the sample, generating during the heating step a curve which reflects total weight loss of the sample in relation to time, ending the heating step when the curve shows that removal of the moisture and decomposition of the binder has substantially ended, taking from the curve a break point which shows up to which time the weight loss is substantially due to the removal of moisture from the sample and from which time the weight loss is substantially due to a decomposition of the binder, determining the binder content of the sample from the difference between the total weight loss of the sample and the weight loss of the sample at the break point.
