PURPOSE:To improve the sealing performance and shape holding performance by inserting and introducing a sealing body consisting of the longitudinal direction of a braided body which is formed by the confounding of the braiding threads. CONSTITUTION:A gland packing 1 is constituted of a braided body 3 which is prepared by lattice-braiding twenty pieces of the braiding thresds 2 and the sealing bodies 4 consisting of a plurality of sheet-shaped sealing materials which are inserted along the longitudinal direction of each braided body 3 into all the cavities between the braided threads 2 which appear on the edge surface. With such constitution, the gland packing 1 in which the sealing bodies 4 are uniformly distributed is obtained, and even if said packing 1 is cut and formed into ring form, the lattice-braided body keeps the improved shape holding performance, and the shape is not deformed, and the contact area for axis can be increased, and the uniform contact for the axis can be maintained. Therefore, the sealing performance can be improved, and permeation leak from the cavity of the inserted and introduced sealing material can be prevented.
