PURPOSE: To visually detect easily the mulfunction of an erase head by performing a magnetic recording while using a medium in which intertrack gaps are not present and detecting the presence or absence of formations of intertrack gaps. ;CONSTITUTION: When a write-in is performed by using an erase function confirming medium in which intertrack gaps are not present, in the case where an erase head is normally operating, erased parts (that is to say, intertrack gaps) are generated, but in the case where the erase head is not normally operating, erased parts (the intertrack gaps) are not generated. Thus, when the erase function confirming medium in which the intertrack gaps are not present is used, since the confirmation of the normality of the erase function is sufficiently performed only by confirming that erased parts are present or not, the normality of the erase function can be confirmed with only a visual confirmation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
