PURPOSE:To accelerate processing speed by reducing the amt. of data to be referred to by analyzing a Japanese language quantitative expression by paragraph transiting from the starting paragraph of a finite automaton, which expresses the Japanese language quantitative expression by paragraph transition, to the final paragraph. CONSTITUTION:For the example of the finite automaton constituted by combining plural sub finite automatons for the Japanese language quantitative expression in the unit of function words, concerning the transition executed from a start paragraph 31 through the transition between respective sub finite automatons 32 and 36 to a final paragraph 37, when this transition is defined as the transition along a side, that side permits the transition without consuming input character string, and the transiting relation between these sub finite automatons 32 and 36 is set by this side. Then, since the paragraph transition through the side of Japanese language characters is performed, a prefix numeral word can be analyzed and a numeral adverb can be analyzed.
