The process for surfacing surfaces or tracks intended for sports use comprises the formation of a substantially rigid base. On this is formed an elastomer-based layer having a thickness and elastic characteristics which are appropriate for the type of game for which the surfacing is intended. The elastomer base layer can be produced off- site in the form of a carpet which can be laid on the already prepared base. A reinforcing mat or net can be embedded in the carpet.
