The gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine having a hole (Hc) to be sealed. The gasket is formed of first and second outer plates (A10), (A14), and a middle member (A11, A12, A13) situated between the outer plates (A10,A14). A main sealing member (A15) formed of a wire ring is situated between a base portion (A10a) of the first outer plate (A10) and the second outer plate (A13) around a curved portion (A10b) of the first outer plate (A10) to define the hole of the engine. An auxiliary sealing member (A16) having a thickness less than that of the main sealing member. (A15) is situated between the curved portion (A10b) and the main sealing member (A15). When the gasket is tightened, the main sealing member (A15) is compressed up to the thickness of the auxiliary sealing member (A16) to provide moderate surface pressure by the auxiliary sealing member (A16) near the hole (Hc) and high surface pressure by the main sealing member (A15) away from the hole (Hc) to be sealed. The surface pressure of sealing portions can be easily controlled.
