For equipping a multiplicity of different electricity meter variants in this method, an intermediate member (2) is in each case mounted, after minimum machining of a mounting area of an electricity meter (3) to be equipped, between the external module (1) exhibiting screw connections (19b) and the electricity meter (3). The latter has a housing bottom (5), a housing lid (7) provided with screws (9) and a clamping lid (8) provided with a mounting (10) and holes (18). A first area of the intermediate member (2) is spatially in each case adapted to a mounting area of all electricity meter variants to be equipped and a second area of the intermediate member (2) is adapted to a mounting area of the external module (1). The intermediate member (2) preferably has the shape of a plate one side of which is provided with cavities and on the second side of which, for example, a row of terminals (14) is attached by means of snap closures (15).
