Utilisation of a steering damper as a stabilisation device for the self-tracking axle of a motor vehicle

A conventional steering damper (22) is used as a stabilizer (12) between an axle body (14) and a part which is moved relative to the wheels (16). The wheels are hinged to the axle body via steering forks (18) which are connected by a track rod (20). The steering damper has a hydraulic cylinder with bypass for the hydraulic fluid. The bypass is active or inactive depending on the stroke of the piston in the hydraulic cylinder. The bypass is formed by a longitudinal groove in the inner cylinder wall (54).
