The present invention provides isolated peptides of Japanese cedar pollen protein allergen, Cry jI. The fetid in the context of the present invention comprises at least one T cell epitope of Cry jI, or preferably at least two T cell epitopes. The invention also relates to modified proteins having similar or improved therapeutic properties to the corresponding natural allergens or portions thereof, but with reduced side effects. The present invention further provides nucleic acid sequences encoding the peptides of the present invention. In the individual, therapeutic or diagnostic methods of sensitivity to Japanese cedar pollen and therapeutic compositions comprising one or more peptides of the invention are also provided. The present invention also provides nucleic acid sequences encoding Jun s I and Jun v I allergens and Jun v I and Jun s I protein allergens. Jun sI and Jun vI are protein allergens that are immunologically cross reactive with Cry jI.
