The present invention seeks to provide an improved bite of a seam transport nipper. The bite according to the invention comprises a lever, which extends a predetermined length in the longitudinal direction of the nipper near the tip of the nipper and pivots at an intermediate point. The midpoint defines the gripping area between the lever end and the midpoint towards the front of the nipper. The lever is pushed against the gripping strip by a force exerted by at least two compression springs. The compression springs are received parallel to one another in a sheet provided side by side with a protrusion fixed on the nipper body in the gripping region. Preferably, the pivot point consists of a pin surrounded by a ring of plastic material or elastomer. An elastic grating such as rubber will be provided below the gripping strips.
