A rotary printing machine has an ink transfer roller (1) which is coated with ink from a trough from which the flow is controlled by an inking blade (3) which is mounted on a supporting beam (2). The inking blade (3) is divided into inking zones by slits which extend inwards from the edge in contact with the roller (1). The pressure exerted on each zone of the roller by the corresponding zone of the blade (3) can be adjusted by means of a lever (5) which is actuated by a rod (7). The levers (6) and operating mechanisms are protected from dirt by a cover sheet (11). This cover may be made of brass or stainless steel foil or from a sheet of plastic with a thickness lying between 0.03 and 0.08 mm. ADVANTAGE - The cover protects the pressure control mechanism but the actuation of the mechanism of one inking zone does not affect neighbouring zones.
