PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve efficiency and heat dissipation of a power converter by mounting primary and secondary coils of a transformer on a lead frame, mounting a rectifier diode on the frame and directly connecting the rectifier diode to the end of the secondary coil. ;SOLUTION: The lead frame of a transformer 101 provides electrical connection between a secondary coil 102 and a conductor 104 deposited on a board or an printed wiring board(PWB) 103. A rectifier diode 106 is mounted on its separate lead frame 107, while the lead frame 107 is mounted on the PWB 103. A conductor trace 104 connects the secondary coil 102 with the rectifier diode 106, and its resistance depends on the physical sizes of the two packages, i.e., the transformer and the diode. The coil of the transformer and the lead frame are encapsulated in a thermosetting molding compound, so as to form a single element.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
