PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer sheet by which recording of good uniformity and good color density can be carried out, by providing a color material layer containing a specific quinophthalone pigment. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer sheet has a color material layer containing a quinophthalone pigment represented by general formula (I) on a base film. In the formula, X represents hydrogen atom or halogen atom, and R represents alkyl group, alkoxyalkyl group which may be substituted, aralkyloxyalkyl group which may be substituted, allyloxyalkyl group which may be substituted, aryloxyalkyl group which may be substituted, tetrahydrofulfuryl group, fulfuryl group, cycloalkyl group, allylgroup, or aralkyl group. The thermal transfer sheet coated uniformly at high density with the pigment, which is suitable for full color recording of good color reproducibility and easily sublimed and by which recording of high color density can be obtained at a high speed, is obtained.
