IMPACT PULSE MODE LOCK RING FIBER LASER USING SEMICONDUCTOR SATURABLE ABSORPTION MATERIAL

PURPOSE: To provide a small laser which generates an ultra-short pulse beam at a high repetition frequency and low sensitivity to polarization. ;CONSTITUTION: A ring resonator is composed of a single mode fiber 16, Er doped fiber 18, filter 24, semiconductor saturable absorber 30 and first and second lenses 26, 28. A fiber amplifier amplifies a pulse beam due to a spontaneous radiation of the film 18 having an optical amplifying property and absorber 30 shapes the beam. Two pulses propagating in mutually opposite directions collide against the absorber 30 to make them mode-locked into an ultra-short pulse beam at a PS or less of a main laser emission mode which is taken out from an output coupler 20.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
