Cosmetic composition for the first stage of an operation of permanent-reshaping of hair. This composition contains, in a suitable cosmetic vehicle, as a reducing agent, at least one mercaptoalkylamino-amide having the following general formula: HS-CH2-CH2-NH-A-CO-NR1R2 (I in which: A represents the divalent radical IMAGE n being an integer between 1 and 5, or the radical IMAGE R representing a linear or branched lower alkyl radical having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms or a 2-(methylthio)ethyl radical, R1 and R2, which may be identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched lower alkyl radical having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a hydroxyalkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a salt of the abovementioned compounds of formula (I).a
