The two pivotable interconnected bending punches (19,20) are arranged next to one another, and with plate contact zones (84) in the rest position define a plate contact plane (91). At least one of them is coupled to a pivot drive. Opposite to the bending punches is a counter punch (10) around which the plate (18) is bent in the work position. The two bending punches are pivotable independently to one another, and are connected to each other by a hinge-type union directly along their facing edges in the rest position. The pivot drive is distributed preferably over the width of the bending device, engaging the bending punches, and the counter punch is only movable linearly.
