The lamp is installed with its filament at one focus of an ellipsoidal reflector whose other focus lies in the focal plane of a coaxial lens. The shape of the beam depends upon the position of a movable mask (30) formed of a vane (31) with suitably shaped upper and lower edges, fixed to a shaft (32) between two bearings (33a,33b). The two stable positions are defined by stops (e.g. 23) inhibiting movement of an arm (34) on one end (32b) of the shaft.
