PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composition for sintering suitable for producing a silicon carbide sintered compact well-known as having very desirable chemical and physical stabilities at a high temperature with a complex shape and its sintered compact. ;SOLUTION: This uniform composition is a composition of α-type silicon carbide containing α-type silicon carbide powder, a carbon source, a boron source and an aluminum source and an amount of the carbon source is the amount generating ≥0.1wt.% of free carbon based on the weight of silicon carbide powder after thermal decomposition. An amount of the boron source is amount suitable for providing 0.1-3wt.% of boron and an amount of aluminum source is an amount suitable for providing 0.1-3wt.% of aluminum. The composition is molded to a green material having a desired shape and sintered at a temperature higher than 1,900°C to obtain an α-type silicon carbide sintered material having a density higher than 2.9g/cm3.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
