The invention relates to an arching protection device for coated overhead cables, comprising a first electrode (4, 5) which is fastened to a wire (2) with a clamp (3) penetrating through the wire insulation and a second electrode (6) which is fastened to a pole crossarm or some other insulator support at such a distance from the first electrode that an electric arc can be controllably ignited and sustained between the electrodes.
