A method for depositing and particularly continuously depositing a reflective layer (3) on a float line glass strip (10), wherein the layer contains a metal with a melting point no higher than the temperature at which the glass strip acquires dimensional stability. Deposition is performed in a controlled inert or reducing atmosphere once the glass strip (10) is dimensionally stable by contacting the strip surface with the powdered or molten metal (22) while the strip is at a temperature selected in such a way that the powder melts and coalesces or the molten metal forms a film on the strip surface, to give a continuous solid layer when the strip is at a temperature no higher than the melting point of the metal.
