FIELD: railway transport. SUBSTANCE: frame side of railway car bogie is made to preserve external appearance of frame side, but result of proposed design is efficient use of materials to reduce mass of frame side. Material is used to suit stresses to which frame side is exposed. It is required that middle section of frame side should have more massive structure than end faces. Entire frame side has unitary H-shape in cross section. Solid upper flange in H-shape corresponds to typical upper compression member, and solid lower flange corresponds to typical lower compression member. Solid vertical bridge connecting upper and lower flanges provides absorption of forces which are to be absorbed by upper or lower member. This makes frame side more light-weight and sufficiently strong, as upper and lower members of smaller size can be used. To fully utilize the advantages of reduction of weight, H-shape structure has thickness gradually decreasing from middle section to end faces which corresponds to loads to which side frame is exposed. Open outer side of H-shape structure facilitates inspection and makes it possible to get better quality castings by reducing the number of mould cores. EFFECT: reduced weight of frame side.
