The modular mounting unit has a base (12) with a mounting plate (13) that accepts the equipment to be mounted, and also has a cable conduit (14). The conduit (14) is a rectangular section box that runs along one edge (15) of the plate. The wall of the conduit has slots (28) at regular intervals, with the slots normally closed by flat covers that can be knocked out to form a cable way. The mounting plate has a profile along its length to retain the electrical equipment, which has a standard clip on one edge. A cover (32B) is hinged from the edge of the conduit, and folds down to cover the assembly. The cover has knock-out slots to allow passage of operating levers. An end plate (58) closes the box.
