The invention relates to a method of manufacture of glyceryl carbonate from glycerol and of an organic cyclic carbonate, in particular ethylene or propylene carbonate. The glycerol and the organic cyclic carbonate are caused to react in the bringing into contact in a solvent medium which is essentially constituted by an organic carbonate, in particular, carbonate or starting reactant, glyceryl carbonate formed or a mixture of both carbonates, in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising sites, in particular, anionic or hydroxylated bicarbonated macroporous resins, or zeolites of type x or y three-dimensional. The diol formed is withdrawn from the medium during the reaction in order to displace the equilibrium.
