PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coupling agent which sufficiently reacts with an inorg. filler (e.g. alumina or titania) and enables good surface treatment effects to be achieved by selecting a coupling agent comprising a metal alkoxide so that the metal atom of the coupling agent is the same as the metal atom of an inorg. filler. ;SOLUTION: This coupling agent is an organometallic compd. represented by formula I (X is a functional group having a vinyl, epoxy, amino, methacrylic, or mercapto group; R is methyl or ethyl; m and n are each 1, 2, or 3; and M is Al, Ti, Ca, Mg, Fe, or a group selected from among groups represented by formula II). The surface treatment of an inorg. filler is carried out by selecting M in formula I so that at least one metal atom in the filler is the same as M. The compd. represented by formula I is a known metal alkoxide and commerically available. X in the coupling agent is selected depending on the kind of a synthetic resin, and thus a coupling agent suitable for both an inorg. filler and a synthetic resin can be selected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
