PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce reduced biodegradable cuticle protein or its dispersion in an aqueous medium that gives macromolecular formed products such as film or sheet having high transparency and bearing active thiol groups from hair of higher animal as human hair, animal hair or feather. ;SOLUTION: Hair of higher animals as human hair, animal hair or feather is reduced by using a reducing agent in an aqueous medium in the presence of a protein denaturing agent or of a protein denaturing agent and a surfactant, the soluble fraction is removed, the resultant insoluble part is cracked into pieces and aged with heat in the presence of a reducing agent, then the reaction mixture is separated and purified thereby producing the objective reduced cuticle protein or its dispersion in an aqueous medium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
