POROUS CERAMICS FOR SYMBIOSIS OF ECOSYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a panel made of pottery, etc., for a retaining wall or revetment so that many small chips of volcanic rock having a large void volume or many small cavities are contained to enable spontaneous plant growth by which the ambient ecosystem is not destroyed. ;SOLUTION: Clay 2 is mixed with small chips 3 of volcanic rock having a large void volume and the resultant mixture is compacted in a panel shape and fired to form a porous ceramic product having 30-40% porosity. In other way, the clay 2 is mixed with small chips of wood or foamed plastic and the chips are burned by firing to reduce the volume and to form cavities 3a. Water such as rainwater stays in the cavities 3a, seed carried by a wind germinates in the water and spreads its root in the cavities 3a and a plant capable of symbiosis with the ambient ecosystem luxuriates spontaneously.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
