PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always detect the concn. of oxygen with high accuracy without being affected by the change of oxygen concn./output voltage characteristics caused by an environmental condition such as temp., humidity or atmospheric pressure or a use time (deterioration with the lapse of time). ;SOLUTION: An oxygen sensor is exposed to the atmosphere with an oxygen concn. of 21% before exposed to an atmosphere to be detected and the output voltage thereof at this time is used to calibrate the oxygen concn./output voltage characteristics of the oxygen sensor (S501, S502) and the oxygen sensor is exposed to the atmosphere (oxygen conc. air) to be detected to detect output voltage and, on the basis of the calibrated oxygen concn./output voltage characteristics, the concn. of oxygen corresponding to the output voltage in the atmosphere to be detected is detected (S504, S505).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
