PURPOSE: To obtain argon and hydrogen in a high concn. with a simple process by adsorbing and removing nitrogen, methane, ammonia and moisture from a remaining gas after recovering ammonia from the purge gas of an ammonia synthesizing plant. ;CONSTITUTION: The method by which the argon and the hydrogen are separated from the purge gas containing at least ammonia, moisture, methane, nitrogen, hydrogen and argon and discharged at an ammonia synthesizing plant is executed as follows. The ammonia, moisture, methane and nitrogen are adsorbed and removed at the first stage pretreating column to recover a large amount of hydrogen discharged at initial stage. Then, an intermediate product containing about 10-16% argon is produced from a gas mixture of discharged argon and hydrogen. Then argon and hydrogen are recovered from the gas mixture respectively as a high purity product at the second stage main adsorbing column.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
