DETECTION OF MAIZE FUNGAL PATHOGENS USING THE POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION

Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS)DNA sequences from the ribosomal RNA gene region aredescribed for different species and strains of Helminthosporium carbonum,Helminthosporium turcicum, Helminthosporium maydis, Cercospora zeae-maydis, Kabatiellazeae and Puccinia sorghi. Specific primers from within these sequences are identified asbeing useful for the identification of the fungal isolates using PCR-based techniques.
